This sculpture is titled “Legless”, and is a surreal depiction of an animal, or being, made entirely out of shins and forearms.
It was designed using the program Rhino and the extension Grasshopper, in order to create it’s distinct, alien look.
The inspiration for this piece came from the depiction of bionic and prosthetic limbs in science fiction stories.
I am fascinated by this idea, and wanted to create a sculpture that encouraged interaction with something similar.
I hope that this sculpture encourages children at the beach to play on and become comfortable with it’s initially imposing presence.
Hopefully, this will encourage them to be empathetic toward people they may meet whom have prosthetic limbs.
Here are a few images that inspired this piece.
